Repainting wrought Iron?
Question:The paint on my outdoor wrought iron railings is flaking and rusting underneath. What is the best technique and materials for repairing and repainting (matte black)?
Answers:
First, sand the railing with a wire brush. Then wipe it off with a clean cloth. Then use a rusty metal primer and then paint with the flat black, as the top coat. I wouldn't advise doing this on a windy day.
use a metal brush(like the ones u would use to clean ur bbq grill)then paint with Rustoleum spray paint.I think I spelled it right.
Get a stiff metal brush to remove all the chipped paint and any debris (or sand blast it) that might have accumulated. Once it is cleaned off, you can spray paint to your hearts desire.
Wire brush the flaking paint and rust then paint it with a rust converter like Extend then top coat with any good metal enamel.
You can tell when the rust converter works cause it turns the
metal black,if it is not black you need another coat. You do not
need to remove the rust just the loose rust.
Best thing to do would be to sand blast it then paint it
