How can I make a below ground level "cold" storage box to store meat for up to a week?
Question:We will be camping for 2 weeks and fresh meat is not easily obtainable. Is there some way I can make a below ground level "cold" storage to keep the meat for up to a week, and then purchase our meat for the 2nd week and keep it the same way?

I don't know, but this would be something I would like to try.
My Grandfather grew up in a cave in Arkansas, they camp meat in the back of the cave were it was cool.

I saw a PBS show, of a man living in the woods, built his own cabin, etc, and dug a hole, put in a tin box, and covered it with sod, dirt, etc, maybe moss.
They sell coolers now that keeps food cold for several days. Choose a shady site, and cover it with a blanket.

That gives some interesting instructions in a historical view of underground refrigeration.
My 2 cents would be to utilized a rocky area that will not be easily penetrated by warmth.
Dig a whole in a rocky area, perhaps a cliffside, where you get one guaranteed thick rock wall, cover it with plenty of ground or dig a tunnel to it (be VERY careful with tunnels)
The materials shouldn't matter so much as having plenty of ground surrounding the area. Be wary of water seeping in from cave walls.
As for what you need this storage for, I wont' ask. Don't worry, your underground storage will keep your 'meat' cool and should be hard for the police to find.
freeze the meat store it in a 5 gallon bucket w/top (like the kind of bucket paint comes in) and bury it deep enought to keep from animals. or, just eat rice and veggies for 2 weeks, you'll lose at least 8 lbs...
