Can you put a polyurethane lacquer over paint without it peeling or any other damage to the paint?

Question:It will be over water-based paint on a pine bed.

Answers:
NO!!! you must put a water based polyurethane on it like poly acrylic, oil based products 9 out of 10 times will pull the water based product off. Good luck Les the painter YOU CAN PUT WATER BASED OVER OIL BUT NOT OIL BASED OVER WATER BASED

I am not sure what a poly lacquer is, but you can use waterbased polys over some not all paints. You can even use oil based polys over some but not all paints, but with oils they tend to turn a nice amber color. But be prepared, even the most well known brands(Minwax) have their limitations. My best recommendation is to use a waterbased polyurethane wipe on finish. www.ugl/zar/...
