I have to make a fake frame to support my a/c unit in a casement window. Instructions say use wood, any other?
Question:The a/c instructions say to nail a piece of wood to the window frame to hold the air conditioner in place..can i use anything else that would be fairly cheap..like sheat metal?? anything please.
Answers:
Angled aluminium. Easy to manage, rust-proof, light, and durable.
why not just use wood it's cheap enough
Over time wood will weaken, try titanium its very strong & won't rust or bend. Not sure how much it might cost.
treated wood
sometimes if you get some metal shelving holders that will work...depends on how heavy the ac unit is and what the window frame is like...make sure the ac is tilted TOWARDS the inside of the house/apt. That way it won't fall out the window, should the window decide it doesn't like the weight.
Here are a couple links to metal brackets you can purchase for installing your a/c in a window. Prices vary, so you might want to read about what's available, then check your local home improvement stores. The last two links have pretty good tips which you should read before installation of your air conditioner.
