How many piece in a firewood cord?
Question:
Answers:
Jon,
A cord isn't legally measured by a piece count. A full cord is 4' x 4' x 8'. I hope someone isn't trying fuzzy math with a piece count! Prices are generally $50-100 depending where you live.
Having unloaded firewood from a delivery truck in the rain and wheeled to the deck in a back yard, however, I am sure there are close to 80-100 pieces.
Thats really hard to determine since the pieces might be different sizes.
A full cord is a large amount of wood. It measures 4 feet high by 4 feet wide by eight feet long (4' x 4' x 8') and has a volume of 128 cubic feet.
the amount of pieces will vary depending on how it is stacked and how big the pieces are.
Although the dimensions for a cord of wood are 4'x4'x8', you can buy wood in what is called a face cord which would be the length you want to cut it by 4'x8'. My grate will take 20 inch pieces, so a face cord for me is 20"x4'x8'
A cord is 128 cubic feet (3.6 cubic metres), and depending upon the length it is cut will determine the number of pieces.
A wood merchant, if he is selling wood by the cord must comply. Some will use metal cages to put the wood in that comply.
Many now also charge, "by the trailer load". This is a cheaper option as you don't pay cartage (freight)
