Home air conditioner blower on continuously but isn't cooling?

check the thermostat, put the fan on 'auto' NOT 'on' then put it on 'cool' lower the temperature below the room temp. and if the the air is still commin through and warm then the compressor is broke, ( the big thing in the back yard with the big fan in it) but if it doesnt turn on at all and NO air is comming through then you have a problem with either your t-stat or furnace. email me if you need more info.
Probably needs a freon recharge. Call your local Air Conditioning guy. A recharge should run around 60.00, Unless the Air Con is ancient and has to be converted to the newer gas used today.
start with cleaning the filter and evaporator (metaillc part behind the filter) if no results..maybe the unit lacks of refrigerant or have problemems with compressor unit..hope it helps...
maybe you can get a pdf of all the working parts (schematic),from the name brands web site. it may have trouble shooters.
with the blower off the ac should be working to make the coils cold . when the blower pulls air through the coils thats where your cold air ! will come from.
it wont shut off untill the set temp. is reached.
I don't know if this would apply to your situation, but when the blower continued to run in my car, it did not cool, but blew warm air. It turned out to be some kind of a sensor that turned off because it thought is was too cold to be running. I know nothing about A/C's, but it sounds similar to your problem
We had this problem, and it was due to leaks in the A.C.'s coils. It cost us about $350 to have fixed.
First check the filter and then the freon.
Make sure your breaker feeding the OD unit isnt tripped,the unit constantly blows air because the tstat isnt satisfied,still calling for cooling.if the breaker isnt tripped,pull the disconnect for and hr or 2 and then re-install it and see if the OD comes on,if it does you need to figure out why its cutting off.bad fan,low freon.if it doesnt come on,call a contractor,there's not much else you can do
