Does anyone know a trick to remove hardened sanded grout off of stone?
Question:i've tried power washing and scrubbing with a nylon mesh brush but not much success. i'm leary of putting muriatic acid on the stone since it is rough granite and i'm not sure what the reaction will be.

I have had a lot of luck with straight white vinegar. Put it on thick and wash it off. You will have to do it several times if the grout is thick. The stone is liable to stain, but there is nothing that can be done.
I kow it is a little late, but next time apply a grout sealer to the surfaces where you do not want the grout to go. If you get grout on the sealed surface it will come off pretty easy.
I would use a grout removal tool for the thick stuff and finish off with wet sand paper.
Rent a wet sand blaster. 3,000 lbs with a 45 degree fan tip should do it. Start at a distance of a couple of feet away and work your way in till you get the desired results. Your yellow pages book should find you the equipment rental place. This will do the job just take your time and be safe. Good luck
If you are really determined to get them cleaned, and have the time availble. You could use a rotary tool with the grout bit - it will grind down very slightly to remove debris, just watch that you don't go too far -only as far as you need to. I would not have it on 'High Speed" either, that will grind too fast for you to have much control over how much is removed.
Remember, though, you must wear eye protection; otherwise, you could sustain serious eye damage if one microchip of that grout accelerates at your eye. Be prepared rather than regretting you did not wear the goggles.
