What is Door Beading really called ?
Question:I know that you can buy doors that have a like moulded effect on them but I have boring brown doors which I want to paint white and kinda stick what I think are called Dado rails on and give the Panel effect - does anyone know what this is called ?

There is actually a kit that you can buy that can turn plain, flat or hollow core doors into Raised Panel Doors. All you have to do is measure the width (horizontal, from left to right) of the door. It should be very close to an even number such as 28, 30, 32, 34, 36 inches. Now the tricky part is finding a local specialty builders supply place that offers them. There is a place in my area that has them as I wondered the same thing a few years ago. However, the price is not low. If you compare the cost of each kit, it is actually comparable to the cost of a new PLAIN door but 1/2 the cost of a new Raised Panel door. The builders supply that I am talking about is a place that generally only sells to contractors, but the public is welcome but pay a little more. The best way to be cost effective is if you have a contractor as a friend, they could buy it for you. But if my memory serves me, each kit only did one side of the door, Im not really sure but if you dont really care what the door looks like from inside the room then you could actually save money buy only buying enough to finish the part of the door thats always seen. I hope this helps and Im sure you can find such a place relatively close to you. You could actually also go to the millwork department in Menards or Home Depot and ask for a kit that turns a Hollow Core door into a raised panel looking door. Have a good day.
Panel Door usually refered to buy the number of panels(8 Panel Door, Six Panel Door, if they have an arch they are refered to by the type of arch Cathedral Panel Door).
Are we talking cabinet doors or full size doors. For cabinet doors you're looking for something like this: http://www.rockler.com/product.cfm?page=... but for full size doors, I've never seen a molding that was big enough that the scale would look right when you were done.
There are probably a bunch of other problems with your doors like chips, that brown paint that will be hard to cover, etc. For full size doors (bedroom doors, etc) most lumber yards offer 'door matching. You just remove the hinges and doorknob and take the door in. Pick out a nice brand new masonite (style if not exact brand) door in the panel configuration that you like and they drill the holes and cut the mortises so that when you take it home and paint it and put the hinges and knob back on it's a perfect fit. It's not that expensive, will look far better, last far longer, and be a lot less work than applied moldings.
If we're talking cabinet doors here, the same thing probably applies there are a lot of companies on the web (try rockler.com) that sell new doors custom sized in many different styles.
Just look in the moulding area of local lumber yard, you can use a variety of smaller mouldings that would work well. I have used cove mould and corner bead that both turned out nice.
