Where would I be able to find specific types of wood?

Question:Like cherry, cedar, mahogany, mesquite, or other hard to find lumber. Local places that carry lumber only carry the more common types.

You'll need to find an actual lumber yard (84 lumber etc). Lowe's and Home Depot don't carry them.
