Price for play area materials in Mass. (wood chips & washed sand)?

Question:I am assembling a swing set for my kids and was wondering what I should expect to pay for CY of washed sand or CY of wood chips in the Southeast Mass area (or Mass in general)

Answers:
screened sand should cost you approx' $15 to $20 per CY picked up at the plant.
If you have a pickup, they should be able to get them to dump 1/4 CY in your truck per trip.
Or, you could shovel it yourself into 5 gallon buckets.
Most gravel pits will deliver, but they will probably have a minimum of $50 delivery charge.

I cannot answer the Mass cost portion of your question but might be able to save you some money. A landscaping supply outfit will carry both the items you are looking for. The landscaping supply outfit will buy the aggregate product from a quarry and charge double to triple the cost. If you have a truck and only need a cubic yard, go to a quarry and ask for concrete sand. if you need 4 or more yards of sand, call a local dumptruck driver and have him go to a quarry and pick up the material. Here in Northern California a landscaping supply company will charge about $60/ yard for the sand. a quarry will charge $16/ ton (1.8 tons to the yard for sand). good luck
