AC Installation in Horizontal Window?

Question:I have a sliding horizontal window and I want to install an AC. I was thinking of putting in a normal window AC without the accordion panels, so that I can close the window tight against the ac. I will need to put plywood above the ac to fill the space. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can you put an ac in without the accordion panels? Before you suggest I get a casement ac, it would still require plywood above the ac due to the window size. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Answers:
I've installed several AC units like that over the years.
my first approach is to make a platform out of plywood for the
AC unit to sit on,so you have a level surface.
Put cleats to fill up the space below so it rests on a solid surface, inside and outside (like the window sill).
You could use an accordion space filler or if the unit is without that,I prefer to use heavy plexiglass or perspex for
the filler panels, either on the side,as well as above the unit.
Caulk the seams with a clear caulking.
Makes for a nicer install than using plywood.
Minimum thickness of the plexiglass is 1/8 but I prefer 3/16
or even 1/4 (about 6 mm)
BTW,a rubber pad under the unit will reduce vibration noise.
Also,if the unit sticks out too far and has most of the weight
outside, you may have to install support brackets under the platform.

That sounds like a good plan. You might want to contact an AC company or Lowes/Home Depot too. They might have alternative suggestions for you to try.
get at least an 8000 btu i bought a 5000 btu and it could not keep up it turned out to be a waste of money in fact it is sitting in my garage and is for sale LOL ! you can also use a couch cusion instead of plywood which works better as an insulter if your putting this in a high sun area
