Which is better coping or angle cutting crown mouldng?

Question:

Answers:
It really depends upon how the crown will be finished. I find coping inside corners a bit easier. If the crown will be painted, you can use a bit of caulk in the corner and all sins disappear anyway, so coping is the answer.

It is difficult to get the perfect fit by coping and fillers show up on a piece to be stained, so if it gets stained an miter cut is the way to go.

Outside corners, of course, should always be mitered.

Really nice decorative inside and outside corner blocks are the easiest way to deal with the corner situation if you can get away with it. All of the cuts are nice and square and they look really nice. They do not work in some historical environments, but they are wonderful for new work or replacement where historic value is not important.

Coping
Coping by far.A good cope will give perfect results on corners that are not a perfect 90 degree angle, which most are not a true 90 degree corner.
Coping, because the corners usually are not 90* and it allows for a better fit to lay in one side un-cut and 45* the other piece and cope the profile of the wood, then push the coped pc. up to the 1st peice and tack as needed or use construction glue.
Coping would be the choice for all solid wood products, but if you are going to use MDF, just miter. The MDF will chip badly on the thin parts of your cope and mushroom when you try to spring it in.
Miter cuts are easier but coping looks better but harder to do...So if you cope take your time, and do it right the first time...
Most finish carpenters that I know do both, cut the angle and cope it back a bit.
coping.. now why would someone try coping a outside corner? that didnt make since
Cope the inside corners and miter the outside.
It depends on the finish. If you are painting no need to cope. If you are gonna stain then you probly need to cope.
