Can I use window sash locks for wooden windows with aluminum ones?
Question:I have aluminum-frame windows, and want to buy some keyed sash locks, but most seem to be intended for use with wooden windows.
Is it possible to buy these and just use sheet metal screws instead of the included ones? Often these are cheaper than their "specifically for metal window" equivalents.
Answers:
As long as the locks will fit the sash properly, why not?
The sash locks do'nt know the difference between wood & aluminum!!
GOOD LUCK!!
I would look around some more! I think there may be a kind that fit in the sash rather than the top of the front part of the sliding window.
While I can't see your window, if they're like the ones I used to have, the aluminum frame is thin and I would be afraid that the screw would make contact with the glass and then break the glass awwwwww oooooops. #$%^@#. I did that in a sliding glass door once and it only cost 200 bucks for someone to come out and put in new glass.
Thanks.
use short screws
