How much should a subcontractor charge for tile setting work by the square foot?

Question:

Answers:
$2.-$2.50 per sf

2 dollars/ sq. foot
This is somewhat of a tricky question.
While $2-$2.50 sounds like a good average,
it depends where you live.
But even more so,it depends on preparation prior to the actual installation of the tiles.
Floor tiles may require much more than wall tiles for instance.
like underlayment,reinforcement of joists etc.
In some cases the preparation may cost more than the laying of the tiles.
Other factors:The type of tile, size of tile,is there a lot of cutting and fitting involved with many angles etc.
All this determines the price/sq foot.
if he's a licensed contractor you should pay about 3.00 to 3.50sq-ft if He's not it would around 2.00 to 2.50 but that all depends on who's supplying the mortar and the grout you or he
