Answers:
I hate mobile home plumbing too.
You can do this yourself.
switch over to cpvc piping
use sharkbite fittings to tie the new into the original.
goodluck
Best thing to do is to do what you've been doing.
I mean just work your way through & replace the rest of the faucets with something with a little more quality.
By the time you spend the time & money messing around with your existing stuff, you'd be better off replacing them.
Good luck!!
It sounds like you have the typical Quest pipe that comes with alot of mobile homes.
Without looking at your set up,it's hard to answer your question but I would suppose that it is going to be hard to change things out to "real" faucets/handles etc because of the fittings on Quest Pipe.
I took on a trailer 11yrs ago and didn't know what I know today about plumbing and everytime I called a Plumbing Co.and asked questions, they immediately said they couldn't fix trailerhouse plumbing.
I have since changed all of my plumbing and have done it myself! I replaced everything with PVC and CPVC,best thing I ever did. . . if is freezes,it breaks and after I crawl under the trailer,snip-snip and glue and I'm done. I haven't paid one single plumber since I have been in my trailer.
Trailers aren't that much different than regular house plumbing except that trailers generally have that Quest Pipe.
Be careful in buying faucets at Lowes or Home Depot or any other large home improvement store as some of those faucets that look like metal can also be plastic. . .esp the really cheap ones.
P.S. I am a mechanically inclined person and had some slight knowledge of plumbing when I started on my trailer but before it was all over,I ended up with a job at Lowes in the plumbing dept and I surprised all of the men I assisted with the knowledge I had about plumbing.
I have changed out my hot water tank twice in 11yrs,have changed my check valve in my well and have replace the pressure gauge on my well.
I have set both of my toliets in my remodeling process.
I have also been able to work on my Septic tank lines and put in clean outs in my lines.
I really surprise people with my abilities. . . no brag, just fact.
Yes, you can. I have purchased new ends for the plastic lines and can attach a real faucet. I found the parts needed at a local Ace Hardware store. It generally involves taking out the wall covering or shower lining for replacing shower or bath faucet.
