In wood working when cutting out dovetails do you cut the tails or the pins 1st?

Question:I use a 2 seperate pitches and cut the tails 1st is this ok or does it really matter. 1:6-- soft wood 1:8---hardwood

Answers:
If you free hand it then, cutting the tails is first so that you can use it as a guide 'template" to draw the design onto the other piece where you will join them .That way you can make an exact joint fit even if each dove tail is different sizes.

It doesnt matter dont cut them exact though leave yourself a little to sand down so you can fine tune and get a tight fit and glue before you bradnail or clamp...
