I currently live in a mobile, have carpet to install but over padding and kicked them tapped onto carpet tack strip. No sin in staples, but not my choice.
Compressor
2 weeks ago I was in HD for whatever and saw a 100 PSI compressor with narrow crown staple///brad nail gun, hose all the fittings a quick release, dual gauges, oil for the gun, allen keys, paperwork for $79.99. Campbell Hausfeld,,, Odd name for a tool made in China, but what else should I expect.
If I had a use for more I would have bought two. I've used it every day for two weeks with great satisfaction,,,and it was inexpensive enough that if it quits,,, I got what I needed from it.
Admittedly that may have been a promo item and regional, but I have found them before in many places. I'm sure Northern Tool/ Pep Boys, etc. has similar.

I imagine one of those electric ones will do the job.
Speak to the guys at the hire service, they'll know, and it may save you a bundle of money to hire on for the day.
a 100 lb one should do fine. when I was building houses we used a 150 but that was mostly for framing.
Some staple guns have a limit as to the psi 80-100 is plenty for most with a 1/2 inch staple. Electric works fine too. However I don't recommend it , I recommend tack stip and a knee kicker instead. If you ever have to replace your carpet later it's going to be very, very hard with stapels in it.
