What is masonite?
Question:where can i purchase it how much does it cost and what is it normally used for.
Answers:
Not for the points; just to share. masonite (brand name trademark) is likely one of the oldest 'Composite" materials of the past century.
PLYWOOD by the way was present in Ancient Egypt.
It's a lot like what I like to describe irreverently as GLIT, a combination of glue and ****, porcessed to create panels. It is even available in a tempered format, is extremely smooth at least on one side, works fine for flexing in the instance you state, and yet does degrade like other laminates/ composites. It's uses are largely up to the one who has a need to construct something.
Most often sold in 4x8 or 2x4 sheets, either for peg or solid it can be found in any HD or Lowes, and is likely a slightly higher price than might be 1/4 sheathing.

Simple answer its like heavy duty cardboard. It used to be used for lots of things, even siding but it dosen't hold up to well so it's not very popular anymore. What are you planning to do that you need it?

It is a manufacturered building material. It is normally used as a peg board to hang hooks on, and store your tools.
I don't know the price, haven't bought any in an age.
Why would you need to purchase something you have no use for or even know what its use is? Oy vey!
Now, I know what it is, have purchased it and used it in various applications.
