My radiator is getting hot even though central heating is not on, why would this happen?
Question:
Answers:
Check the three way valve is working ... the reason the radiators are getting hot maybe because this valve is broken or stuck. The valve diverts water either to the radiators or to the hot water tank. If the valve is not working then this problem can happen.
I had the same problem with my central heating system, my husband managed to change the valve himself without to much problem. We got the new valve at B&Q... untile you can sort the problem out... try turning the radiators off at the nob on the base. This solves the heat problem.
Hope this helps

if your cold water is hot also then i'd say a thermostat
Is it the bathroom one? If so ours does that too as it is connected to the water heating and not the central heating so you always have warm dry towels whatever the season.
is the cat on it?
Boiler is broken.Turn off radiator at the valve on the side and you may need a new boiler.
If the radiator comes on when the Hot water is on, then there is a faulty switch in the cupboard by your hot water tank.
You need a heating engineer to fix it.
if your radiator is part of your central heating, then i would say that your central heating IS still on. if your boiler is cold, then your radiator is hooked to something else,. use process of elimination.
If you have a combination boiler, it could be acting as a scape-goat. There should be an expansion valve so the boiler doesn't over heat. It sounds to me, the plumbing has been plumbed in, incorrectly.
The chances are it is the highest radiator in the system and the reason it gets hot is convection currents. Hot water rises and cool water descends.
The system can be swittched off for weeks and one radiator always seems to be hot....
