How do you mow the lawn without bald spots in your yard?

Question:My husband mows the lawn but there are patches in the lawn now and then that I'd like to get rid of. Is it the product, how he mows, the lawn mower, or the grass?

Answers:
Use fertalizer on the bald spots and water it at night not during the day the water magnafies the water so it dries out the grass (night =dawn dusk).

I don't really know where to go with this because I don't know what is causing the bare patches in your yard. First off however disregard Mr. M's reply as putting fertilizer on a bare patch of soil makes about as much sense as putting gas in a car with no engine. Try to find out what is causing the problem. Here are a few possibilities: Moles sometimes create hills and when you just mow over them you get a bare spot. If the mower is set too low, high spots in the lawn will get scalped. Spraying the wrong type of herbicide will kill not only the weed but also anythig else it comes into contact with, ie your lawn. So, cut your grass a bit higher, this is good for the grass and helps it choke out weeds. Use only 2-4-D Amine weed killer or Weed-B-gone on weeds. Till up the bald spots a bit and rake in some grass seed and cover with some straw or the like if you can and water in the evening and morning for a few days and that should get some grass started. Good luck!
It may be that your husband doesn't have a straight hand and cant mow straight or that the mower doesn't work or that the lawn has its defects
bare patches means you have a diseased yard and need a pro to help diagnose the problem. it is not the mower or the way your husband mows. these areas will need to be cleaned out place new soil in them, reseed and then fertilize as directed. water every morning and those patches will disappear shortly. good luck and make sure your husband is not cutting the grass to short, as this will kill the grass. your mower should be set no lower than 2 1/2 inches to create a nice thick green lawn.
My advice is if the patches are pretty noticable just roll some SOD in there and let it grow. But most importantly is when mowing the grass " Keep the mower moving" when the blade is down. Do not stop at any spot while the blade is in contact with the grass, it will tend to "draw up" from the bottom and can easily cause spotty lawns.
yOU MAY WANT TO GO TO YOUR LOCAL LOWES OR HARDWARE STORE, AND GET A SOIL TEST KIT FOR ABOUT 5$. IT WILL SHOW IF THERE IS TOO MUCH ACIDITY IN THE SOIL. IT WILL GIVE YOU SUGGESTIONS ON HOW TO FIX. ALSO YOU MAY WANT TO DIG UP THE BARE SPOTS AND FILL BACK IN WITH CLEAN SIFTED TOPSOIL AND PLANT YOUR SEEDS (AS LONG AS SOIL TEST IS OK) HOPE THIS HELPS CUZ I HAD SAME PROBLEM AND I HAD GREAT RESULTS
