Is there a way to remove the orange peel look from finished plastic?

Question:i dont wanna redo the entire piece. just wondering if wet sanding would do it. if so, what grit and how do i do it?

Answers:
Wet sand it with1200 grit paper.
Keep the surface being sanded wet as well as the sandpaper.
Dry & clean thoroughlly, wipe it down with amonia & repaint it.
Hope this helped, good luck!!

mostly the orange peel look comes from silicone in the finish which gives a fisheye or orange peel look due to reduced surface tension in the finish. The finish might dissolve it from the plastic before it sets, or the surface might have been contaminated by a silicone based wax. At any rate there is a product called fisheye destroyer you can add to the finish to help it lie flat while curing. Oddly enough the fisheye destroyer is - silicone. It is mixed in to the finish and lowers the surface tension more evenly if it is well stirred in.

I have resprayed hundreds of pieces of furniture using cold spray lacquer with this method, and never sanded finer than 220 grit. It gives a nice smooth finish with good 'grip' and the finish floats out level on it. No need for a finer prep finish when the spray - on will be less smooth than 1000 grit after it sets up. For that much shine you gotts to process after applying the finish - hence the term "hand rubbed lacquer finish".
400 to600 grit will get it down flat, and if it is a shiny finish, you will have to sand with even finer, then with rubbing compound, then with wax.
Orange peel comes from applying to much paint to the surface without letting the previous coat dry or for example spraying paint from a can closer then 6-8 inches. Next if you used a roller you had to much paint on it when applying it. Your only course of action is to sand and repaint. The silicone does not cause orange peel because paint will not stick to silcone, this I know for a fact because my family has been in the automotive auto body and painting business for more then 15 years and we also do auto detailing and paint will not stick to a surface if is coated with silicone or there is silicone in the air, ex. car that is freshly waxed. Start sanding with 600 and up depeding on how thick the oarnge peel is, you need to used wet dry sand paper but don't need to wet sand until you have removed the oange peel.Hope this helps you out.
