I need to make a point on 1"x1" cedar stakes..?
Question:We have a craft business, and use 1"x1" cedar stakes. My problem is that the point must be sharpened ( like a pencil ) and I have been doing it on my sationary belt sander, which is a very inefficient method... Does anyone know of a device to sharpen the stakes to a point quickly and efficiently ? If so, please give me and name for the product, and the manufacturer, if possible...

It's only cedar so it's very soft and only 1"x1" surely you have already found the quickest way. Just put a 40 grit belt on the sander. Hold it on an angle against the belt and spin it in your hand, surely it can't take any longer than 15 seconds to do one.
A small wood lathe. Perfect for your situation. you can make a jig and offset the tailstock and have pencil point results every time, uniform too.
hold it long into the blade of your chop saw and cut around it 4 times.
otherwise theres a jig that bed makers use for pole beds that cost about 400.00
It depends on the length of your pencils. You could use a drill press with a vice to hold the bottom and what is known as a dowel cutter in the chuck. They are fairly large, and can be set to make a point or a dowel on the end of a piece of wood. Try lee valley tools as a source, using the obvious name for a web address.
By the way - cedar dust is toxic. (How did you think it resists insects and mold; it is in the resins) so wear a good mask if you cut significant amounts and raise lots of dust.
