Wood filler from any DIY shop
Colour matched wood filler from a DIY store
A finishers "trick-of-the-trade". If you have kids, or freinds with kids, grab their box of "crayola crayons" and find a color that matches the finish. Just run the crayon over the holes a few times, rub the excess off with a rough cloth and Voila! the holes dissapear! oh.and move the dartboard!..lol
I would recommend Murphy Oil Soap. Follow the directions on the bottle, and most of the holes should close most of the way, and the fireplace will have an "antiqued" look.
I would consider filling the holes with a wood putty that has been coloured to match the existing colour. It must be of the non-shrinking type! This panel is subject to wild temperature swings-crayola's and other wax based fillers could 'bleed' out .
