Has the problems with Trex been resolved?
Question:Trex settled a class action lawsuit a short while back concerning decking before 2004. I also seen a lot of complaints on the product dating back from 2005 and earlier. Since then I haven't seen may recent complaints. Is Trex a good solution for composite deck? Are the alleged mold problems been fixed in their product? Has anyone had problems with Trex purchased in 2005 or later? (I know there are other products out there but I haven't been able to get it for a cost near that of Trex arround me)

They did change the manufacturing process, but I am not sure how effective it was. I do believe they offer a ten year warranty.
I am installing some Trex on a deck I will start later today.
First of all "TREX" was the original in composite decking. I've been using it since 2000. Initially their process allowed that some roughness was evident, fading occured, and the "Flecks" of some of the various materials, could surface and chip. That is no longer the case.
Since TREX, there have been numerous manufacturers who have replicated similar processing,,,and many are as viable, and long lasting.
One thing to note,,, and this can be found on sites like "this old house" and any decent DECK contractor. There is a screw designed for decking that allows No scruff when the screw head is intalled to flush, or sub flush. Regular decking screws, especially on wooden decking, often kind of shred the surface just adjacent to the screw head.
Certainly the initial cost is well worth the price, given the time span it will last and remain virtually maintenance free,,,as opposed to any wood decking material,,,and the installation procedures are the same.
