Wallpaper project?
Question:We have bought a house and the kitchen is fully wallpapered >my question is ..Is there a way to remove this wallpaper easily. I am so afraid I'm going to start this and regret it.
Also, how do you get through projects that you just want to walk away from?
Thank you

Please make sure that wallpaper was put on a painted wall before removing it. If it wasn't you are going to run into a major problem. If the wall was not painted before it was put up, when you try to remove it especially with water, it will take the face off of your sheetrock. Find a spot that isn't noticeable and peel back to check. If painted underneath, just pull off face of paper. The backing left on wall should come off with warm water and a sponge. If not painted consider painting or papering over. Most household project are a pain, right now I am helping a friend paint a rental house she is moving into. We find it is a good time to talk about things in length, or we put on music and sing along. It makes the project go a lot faster. Also a cold beer in refrigerator helps!!
There is no real easy way to remove wallpaper. The easiest is to rent a steamer from your hardware store. Use that to remove the paper. Especially since you have a lot to take off. Get some people over for a paper-peeling party. Can put them to work too. Some can use water/sponge/scraper technique. Order in a pizza and some pop or beer when finished. One day with help should do it.
To get through awful projects, can have someone else do them. Or leave lots of time so you won't feel rushed. Get all you need to work on the project ready the day before. Next day, start right after breakfast. Have a friend help. Just force yourself to do it and put it behind you. Then you can say OMG
I am so glad that is done. Have done many of these projects myself. I have one coming up too. Scraping/painting front porch and steps. Ugh!
Most wallpapers are peal away BUT they have the adhesive coating left behind. I had a bathroom with old wallpaper that I recently took off. No matter what its going to be a job. All you have to do is peel the wallpaper off. Take some wallpaper adhesive remover that you can buy from Lowes or Home Depot ect. and spray it on. Let it sit about 10 minutes or until it soaks in but not drys. Then take a scraper and scrap away. Try to make sure you get it all scraped off because its residue that you leave behind will show when you paint. Its a messy job so make sure you have something to throw down on your floor. It took me several days by myself to do my bathroom. To keep yourself motivated tell yourself how much better it will look when you finally get to paint it and decorate it in your own style. It does look great after its totally done. Well worth the effort. Good Luck
This one suggests fabric softener. Yes there are easy ways.
I just haven't had to use any.
