Zero clearance installation?
Question:what exactly does this mean and what are the advantages in choosing a gas range?
Answers:
THAT PAPER CALLED "INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS" COMES WITH EVERY RANGE, COOKTOP AND OVEN WILL TELL YOU VERY WELL THE DETAIL OF INSTALLING IT AND WHERE THE ZERO CLEARANCE APPLIES. READ IT BEFORE YOU BUY THE RANGE JUST TO MAKE SURE WHERE THE ZERO CLEARANCE IS-AND TO WHAT KIND OF MATERIAL.
In a different area--I can give you an example.
Water heaters used to require 1" of clearance at the back and sides of it from walls, obstructions, other items, etc.
No more. They now have a zero clearance on the sides and back of the water heater. Just a note, they still require six inches in front and 12 inches above it.
Anyway, it's apparent you can put the range in a pretty tight hole.
The advantage in a gas range is the door seal area wherein the range can be set back into cabinets that enclose it on both side.
You can have zero side clearance on such a range and it can be set back even as much as a 2 or 3 inches from the face of adjorning cabinets on each side of the range without any fear that the door space on the sides will cause a problem.
Zero clearance simply means you do not have to have any space between what you are installing and any combustible materials.
Gas ranges generally operate at lower cost than electric.
It means your range can be installed so the sides of the range can touch the cabinets and the back can be against the wall... carefull not to kink your stainless steel flexable connector back there!
The advantages of a gas range over an electric range..., well its really what you like to cook on. I prefer electric. You don't have to worry about Carbon Monoxide from the range/oven that away.
