Silly string removal?
Question:i have old silly string on my car baked on that only comes off if you scrape it. I don't want to scratch my car. Is there a chemical solution?
Answers:
try it from another perspective....
cover the rest of the car in silly string!
Maybe using a broom to scrape it off will work with out scratching your car.
Im not sure of any chemicals you could use, take it to a car wash with a pressure washer or rent one.
try using Mayonaise.
Try using oven cleaner, or 3m makes an adhesive remover that might disolve it. I've used both to remove decals. Won't hurt the finish but you may have to put wax on it again.
Have you tried Goo Gone? I love this stuff. It's, basically, just orange oil. It neutralizes the stickiness in substances. I've used it to take tree sap and bumper sticker residue off my car and it doesn't hurt the paint. Just spray it on and give it a few minutes and it will make it much easier to remove.
That said, any kind of oily substance should work. Goo gone doesn't leave a residue though, which is why it works great (smells lovely too).
Have you tried freezing it? Place a cold pack against it for a while and it becomes brittle and easier to remove. My daughter sprayed a garden gnome with that. Freezing it helped.
Good luck!
