Oil Free Air Compressor Life Span?
Question:I just got a Kobalt 26 Gallon Air Compressor ( From Lowes)
Whats the Lifespan of this design?. I will only use it for removing tires and under the hood jobs of my car, some nails. A now and then situation, nothing heavy.
I know that the Oil operated, cast iron crank and belt systems are superior. My new system Seems to work as it should and very simple to use. It's the $299 if you look at the lowes website. And it came with lots of equipmet.
Here are the specs, Are they any good.??

Welcome to the club my brother. You will find new uses for your new friend every week. Keep it covered, dust it off, keep draining it (a bit of a pain in the butt but necessary). It will last a long, long time. Maybe longer than you want cause you may want to upgrade in a couple of years to a larger tank size. They are a little on the loud side compared to the model you described with the belt drive. Locate it behind a wall. Build it a little house if you need to because you don't need the noise making your work shop less of a happy place. Now all you got to do is start buying tools that work off compressed air without angering the wife too much.
It depend on how many hours you use it. I have one in a office and it was use about 25 hrs a week and had to replace it after one year.
I had a oil type compressor that belong to my father and it been running for 45 years, but not every day.
once a week i've ran a oil free porter cable pancake for 3 years... lol i just make sure i drain the water after use.
Like all air compressors life expectancy it determined by how many hours the compressor runs, how hot the ambient air is and how well maintained the unit is.
One thing to bare in mind is that most air tools have very high air requirements and these small air compressors really struggle to operate the tools for any lenght of time.
Typically if every thing is running fine and the compressor is not in a hot environment the compressor should run for about a year without any problems.
i have done many repairs on oiless air compressors and have seen people get many years service out of them...what you get is absolutely up to you and how well you maintain it ...such things as keeping filters changed...amount of use and what size air tools you arew going to use..what size tank you have all play a role in how long it will last.by what i see it will have a tough time of keeping up with your air tools if you use them contuinously on weekends.personally i recommend speedaire air compressors or ingersol rand air compressors with oil filled crankcase.i have a speedaire 5 hp that is used everyday and is now 22 years old and only thing i have ever had to do is change oil and filters regularly...
