Is a water powered sump pump any good?

Question:I want to have a back up to my electric sump pump but don't like the problems associated with battery back up pumps. Does anyone use a water powered sump pump?

Answers:
I install them all the time. They work great if installed properly, and you have an understanding of the pump and how it works. Everyone I've installed one for, say they are glad they had one put in. Just as everything in a home, they need maintenance, checking them periodically to make sure they work, and the float is not stuck. They are a great insurance.

I haven't used one. Sounds like a great back-up, if it works when you need it.
Probably not. I've never heard of this device, but if it were available I would be curious about how it works. Water can provide electric power and power for grinding mills, but evacuating water, I would approach with caution.
