How do I fit a velux window.?
Question:I require complete installation details from the initial measuring for a velux to the actual details on how to fit the velux.
Answers:
If you aren't an experienced DIYer or tradesman/woman I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself; I'm a time served joiner and I find them a bit of a pain at the best of times. The roof tiles/slates will need to be cut and reworked in the area you want to fit the velux, as well as flashed properly. Any mistakes in cutting & fixing the flashing will potentially store up problems for years. Expect to pay a joiner around £300 labour.

to an experienced tradesman it could be done in a couple of days, if you have no knowledge of building you could be asking for a lot of trouble. once you open up the roof you are open to all the elements and need to get the window in asap.
I would pay a couple of hundred pounds and get the professional to do it.
also, when you come to sell you home you will have a problem if it has not been fitted by an approved person.
I work with a loft conversion crew and they fit them from the inside taking the tiles off to create the opening and fitting the window they take about 1/2 day per window. What I have learnt is that you need to get the right window for the pitch of the roof, also you need to get the correct fitting kit for the tiles on your roof. Contact Velux for a brochure which has alot of info.
Hope this helps.
