Can i build up my concreate floor to ad a center drain?
Question:I live on a concrete slab, and dread moving my old tub drain, to accomidate a center shower drain.
what i am wondering, is can i build up the floor 4 or 5 inches and run a drain pipe from the old drain to a ceter drain on a prefab shower pan, thus eliminatingthe need to move the old actual drain?
Answers:
Really you are best off just renting a jack hammer and doing it the right way. In the end it will be less work. Hauling wheel barrow loads of concrete in the house will be a lot of work.
Have you figured out how many yards it will take to fill a bathroom 5" deep? That is a lot of work.
As long as the new pipe run does not prevent you from venting the shower properly. It would suck to pour all that concrete to have a new shower that drains real slow because of a venting problem.
If you don't have much plumbing experience you might want to hire a plumber do that part.
Before pouring the new concrete be sure to use a concrete bonding agent so the new concrete will adhere to the old.
You can also install radiant floor heating in the new slab.
yes you can you must use a cement that adheres to existing cement they sell it at home depot it work's i used it in my garage 6 year's ago still holding up just fine
If you really what a tile shower floor then yes you can. However if you are planning to install an acrylic shower pan why not just buy one with an end drain. There are several manufacturers that make then.
Both revlatz and john gave good answers! You can raise the floor with wood framing too.
floor self levelor you can pour it up to an inch thick as many times as needed just let cure one inch at a time. check out mapeis' line http://www.mapei.com/mapeiamericas/en/pr...
