How can I block light from my window? Light comes around curtains?

Question:How can I block light from my window without using aluminum foil? I have curtains but the strong security light outside still comes in around them. I don't own my place so I can't remove curtains.

Answers:
Go to a fabric store. They will have stuff called "Black out fabric" Usually its white or beige on both sides but it has a black rubbery layer in the middle. No light will get through it. None.

The same place should be able to hook you up with some clip on curtain hooks/rings. Get enough fabric to go 1 and 1/2 times the width of your window.

At the edges of the window you can use a couple thumb tacks, tape or Velcro to seal it tight to the frame if need be.

You should be able to put this on the same curtain rod as what's already there as a liner. Put the blackout fabric on the window side and keep the nicer curtains on the room side.

buy some black construction paper and tape it to the window.
try putting someting on the curtind like over the curtains aor put blinds
Kal, just add a thermal curtain to the existing for more darkness
I have this problem when my boyfriend goes on night shift. The light spills in during the day and he can't sleep. I started pushing push pins into the walls it worked well until i couldnt look out when I wanted to so I ended up buying "black out" curtains or "movie theatre" curtains. They're great they not only block out the light completly but the hold back the heat or cold. You can find them anywhere, but they are cheaper at walmart or on ebay
Use a window film, available in hardware stores, clean the window and apply with a squeegee...this way you get all of the window. It comes in different coverages and with full instructions.
i hang a blanket on the inside with thumb tacks. Kind of depressing but i gets my zzzzz
Good old fashioned window shades, not blinds. They actually sell shades that are made to block all sunlight at WalMart, Lowes, etc. Can't remember what they're called, but they are a greyish color, not white. You'll need to measure your window before you go because they cut the shades to your exact measurements. These work great!! I had them in my bedroom when I used to bartend because I had to sleep during the day and they made my bedroom almost pitch black!
i personally just use a washcloth over my eyes when i'm trying to sleep. saves alot of time and hassle!
Try fitting a roller blind on the other side of your curtains, dark colors work best
you could take a blanket and tuck it into the curtain rod...it usually blocks light pretty well.
Mount your curtains outside the window frame.
I have seen black out blinds and black out material sold in Argos, Ikea and various other places.
I know it's not what you were asking but when my mate was on night shift he used the eye masks you're given on long flights, as they're comfy but effective.
You can use room darkening shades with you drapes.Or you can buy room darkening drapes also.Make sure your drapes are hanging right on the rod. They should go all the way around the window frame.I think I would try the shades first. They also help to insulate
A good old sheet of plywood should do the trick. If you want light during the day, then mount it using right-angle screw-hooks, outside the edges, just like mounting a mirror. Turn the hooks and lift off the playwood. Since when can't you remove the curtains if you don't own the place? You can remove them, fold, and store. When you leave, just put them back up.
Plywood.
Use a fascia to enclose your curtain rods and the sides of your curtains. This is simply a box built around the rods and sides that hides that part of your curtain. Works like a champ.
