Removing green stains from side of inground pool.?

Question:After diligently trying to clear our inground pool water, we finally succeeded. Problem now is that we can see all of the sides are covered with a greenish stain. These stains do not just come off by brushing them. Any suggestions?

Answers:
No, please don't use TSP in the pool or bleach cream! These will do more harm than good in the pool.

What you have is copper staining. I'm betting you used a lot of copper containing algaecides and generous amounts of shock. Doing this can cause the problems you've experienced.

Take a sock or the toe end of a pair of pantyhose and fill it with cyanuric acid (chlorine stabilizer). Let this sit on the stains for a little bit and you will see them start to disappear. Cyanuric acid is a much safer alternative than sodium bisulfate (pH decreaser) in cleaning these stains. You will also want to add some metal locking agent to the water to keep any copper you still have from dropping. This won't stop it from ever dropping back out but it helps.

Get some bleach cream.
Try TSP and Bleach but cover yourself up (wearing gloves and mask) and be careful not to inhale the chemicals. This also works great for mold stains. The mixture instructions are on the the TSP box. You can buy TSP (Tri-Sodium Phosphate) at most hardware stores just ask the clerk.
