Will a typical window a/c work on its side?
Question:the windows in my apt. are very small.could i turn my a/c on it's side to make it fit...or will the a/c not work unless its upright?

You cannot turn an air conditioner on its side the freon will not circulate..sorry

You can use in any side but ask it in your building because it is normally forbidden to fix it in other way.

no the freon has to get back to the compresor. the tube is very small. it dosent take much to screw it up.
The problem here is not with the "freon" it's with the oil in the compressor sump,which if it is turned on it's side the oil will clog the evaporator coil causing no cooling effect and the compressor will overheat and lock up because it is not being cooled and lubricated by the oil that used to be in the oil sump.Plus the condensate wont drain as it should. Buy a new window unit they are fairly cheap.
