Can you use Olive Oil to treat a hardwood dowel before you put threads in it with a wood threader?

Question:I know that you can use tung oil or linseed to treat wood.

Answers:
I'm not sure about olive oil but I'm certain the linseed oil is the best for this purpose..☺

I use olive oil to treat the wooden handles on my knives. I don't see why you can't use it on a dowel.., but why would you want to? Does it make it easier to thread it?
you can use olive oil for everything.
You can used it folk but for emergency purpose.. its expensive and the time of its effeciency is not that certain.
the oil isnt going to penetrate the wood without an alcohol type additive. mix in some acetone, maybe 25% to start. another thing is that olive oil will go rancid as will most cooking oils, it's just a matter of time so consider that too.
The down side of olive oil is that it does not cure like tung and linseed so it will turn rancid and stink.
consider mineral oil instead of olive oil, it won't go rancid and is also safe for contact with food. you can buy it at the supermarket or pharmacy in the health care aisles. it's a laxative. it is used to seal stone counter tops in kitchens, too.
