How do i re-finish a wood silverware box.?

Question:The box is now scratched and has a darkwood look, I want it to look natural light wood with a shiny varnish, any ideas on how to make this happen?

Answers:
strip the varnish with paint stripper and then sand it.
then you can stain it again and use a high gloss poly urethane over it to make it shine

strip, sand, stain, and then polyeurethane

or skip the stain if you like the natural wood color.
