How do you seal up a window in a room you do not need anymore?
Question:I am building a wall of bookcases in my den and I need to seal up a window on that specific wall. I have three other windows. Once I remove the window, what do I need to do to close it up so I can build my bookcases? I need to seal the outside part of the opening against the elements, but I will leave the inside-moulding and all for shelves and build around it. Has anyone done this before? Can someone help me? Thanks!

Here is an EASY way. Put a wood slant blind in the window in the closed position. From the outside it will look like a window with a closed blind. Remove the trim on the inside around window. Fill in the inside with drywall or what ever you want. Build the bookcase. No outside work to do.
Use ply wood, and glue and then screw in.
lots and lots of duct tape
plastic sheeting over caulking and a few staples. hang big pix print over windown. that is the quick, inexpensive way.
insulate the former window area, then side or brick it to match the exterior of your home
Guessing this is an exterior wall where you are removing the window? You didn't mention what type of walls you have, cement block, or wooden.
Put some insulation in the window hole and put plywood on the inside and outside. Then caulk the outside of the window to seal it.
If you have to ask how, you should call a carpenter.
i guess gayle has windows in her interior walls! lol. if you are going through all of the work to remove the window, why leave the interior trim on your wall? just wondering.
