Retractable tape measures-read backwards?
Question:If most people in the world are right handed why is it that all tape measures read from left to right, this makes marking a measured length with a pencil in your right hand awkward to say the least, unless you read the numbers upside down ?
A right to left numbered tape would seem a lot easyer.
Answers:
You could buy a left-hander's tape measure (not from Ned's shop, unfortunately):

£9.95! How we poor left-handers suffer.
lol
go to ned flanders shop and see if he has one the other way round
indeed it would.
because the tape measure was invented ready for my arrival on earth when i became a roofer and need to hold tape in left hand and mark with right hand onto roof felt with pen ..simple when you fink about it innit
I think there are brands that do them the other way and if I knew where , mine was I would have a look.
are you saying you cant read numbers upside down
I agree with mrs r. Since his wife passed away, Ned has been raising Rob and Todd on his own. It's not easy raising two kids on a single parents salary, and I think Flanders would really appreciate your business.
You can buy a tape measure for left handed people. I just did a search and there are many sites to purchase one...
Turn it the other way up if you can't afford a left-handed one
of coarse it is and that is why they sell them ..i am left handed and i have two of them ..i got fed up with making mistakes with the tape ..most good builders merchants will have them
i work on a building site and 4 of the joiners are left handed, and these boys are among the best tradesmen i know and they have no problems with using standard tape measures to mark out. most left handed people have no problem reading from left to right and vice versa. my missus is left handed and can write right to left no sweat.
i dunno. i am left handed and i have used a rule for 40 some years. never noticed it.
Being right handed means that you invariably hold the tape measure in your right hand, and then measure from left to right.
I've had no problems using a tape measure in this manner and am right handed.
