If you are having a dinner, then have a barbecue, therefore everyone can keep the dirt outside! If you want to have something unique, just have nice coffee/tea- dessert kinda thing. Then all you have to worry about is beverages and desserts.
if you are hosting- finger foods, a variety of beverages, cool music, lots of friends!!
If you are going to one- I would bring a nice plant, a bottle of wine, etc
How about some food and drink? . And then you could play like a game. You could have a contest or a drawing to win a prize. Then you could show your guests the house etc etc etc...
Send invitations with a outside picture of your new home and suggest to all guest that the inside is greater come and see. Tell them you have talent at decorating and if they have any added suggestions to come see your place on this date. Inform them there will be food, drink, lots of fun and a chance to make new friends. Gifts are optional. Friendship is not. Looking forward to seeing you here. (Serve hors d'oeurves)
