Water Feature in Bar Top?

Question:I was thinking about redoing my bar top and I wanted to do something along the lines of adding river rock pebbles and then running a clear tube through the rocks and have water filter through the tube. To cover everyhing thing I was going to use epoxy over the top...

Do you think something like this would be possible.

Answers:
Interesting concept. However, I don't think the water will be discernible inside a clear tube without adding some kind of dye. If the goal is to recreate a stream effect, you'll want the water to run freely. This would require a watertight base and a sloped surface; both of which create additional problems.

On the other hand, I haven't any experience with any project of this nature. And it is a very creative concept. I've always been sceptical of concepts which are "outside the box;" too many people are overly quick to throw away the box before looking inside to see what it contains. However, in this case, it might be worth a try.

It's important to remember that "ground-breaking" ideas very rarely succeed with the first attempt. If you're eager for something different, it may require numerous attempts before the project finally succeeds. This takes time, money and patience. So good luck.

PS. If you do decide to try it out, I am sincerely interested in learning about what you discover. Feel free to drop me a line when its completed. Thanks.

Such a thing could be conceived and built. Don't forget you have to have access to clean it as water has lots of impurities that cloud plastic and living organisms that will grow eventually.
The intent sounds nice but I would think the tubing would fill with water and not be able to be seen "running" through the tube.
I saw a bathroom sink made from clear acrylic. The whole thing was hollow and filled with water with fish swimming around in it. Very cool. How about an acrylic box about 2 or three inches thick for a bar top? One end would be raised like a box on the end with a cover for air and feeding and maintenance.
