Help with a Dremel?

Question:My husband got a Dremel tool a few years ago and has never used it. He also lost the instruction manual. I realized it could be very helpful to me in some of my crafts projects I'm doing, only I can't figure out how to work the darn thing. I went to the website and looked at the manual there but it didn't seem to help. With all the accessories it came with, there appears to be only one collet and I can't seem to make any of the bits fit correctly. Shouldn't the bits that came with the original kit fit that collet? Any help would be appreciated!

Answers:
I'm thinking most of these 'Rotary Tools' are pretty much the same. Mine is a Sears but when I got it there were a few things I had to do before using it.
1. I had to hold down the 'Red' button near the end where the bits are inserted, while loosening the outter nut on the end until it comes off.
2. I had to place the brass collet that came with it onto the shaft inside.
3. Place that outter nut back on and tighten it down part way ( most of the way).

4. Pick a bit and slide its shank into the end then tighten that outter nut the rest of the way down.
Note: when ever you tighten or loosen the outter nut you'll need to depress the red button near the end, this locks the shaft so it don't turn while you are tightening / loosening the outter nut.

Note-2: You really shouldn't do like I do, you should unplug it before changing bits or collets.

You can buy other collet sizes and use other bits - mine only came with one collet too (1/8") and for some of the 'router bits' in need to get the 3/32" collet, others work with the 1/8".
However, to your question yes, all of the bits that came with the initial package will fit and work with the collet(s) supplied.
Perhaps you can see if 'Dremel' has a download for your " Owner's Manual" and even if it is not your model exactly if you can get one that is close most of the items discussed should apply to your model too. Attachments will be discussed breifly in the manual - such as the 'Flex Shaft' which is really cool.
I use one of those "Helping Hands' from Radio Shack ( allegator clips to hold things with a magnifying glass on a stand) This really helps for finely detailed work and most Dremel Style Work.
Hope ya get it going and "Have Fun."

hi
on the dremel near the collar there a button you press and hold it then rotate the collar shaft till it locks
then used the wrench to loosen the collar and then insert the bit, tighten it and release the button
then your ready to used it
plug it in and turn the button on
ON THE DREMEL

There is a button, that when you push it, locks the shaft in place. THEN you can either loosed the collar, which allows you to change bits, OR take the collar off completely to change the collet. Some dremel bits DO take a different sized collet, which still fits under the same collar, and do not always come with the dremel.

Hope this helps.
