Cracked cast iron pipe...Any ideas?

Question:I have a cast iron offest elbow under my stool that i discovered has a small crack in it. I am not excited about changing the cast iron out at this moment, but i know it is the right thing to do. Has anyone had a good experience with any of the quick-fix pipe repair kits that are out there, i;m hoping to buy some time. I think they use some kind of glue or something?

Answers:
If somehow you can keep it dry for a day or two, grind out a groove in the crack, and fill with "JB Weld". This stuff will even repair engine blocks.
It comes in two speeds, an overnight cure ( which I recommend) and a 15 minute cure.
Surface must be clean and dry for best results.
JB Weld can be found in most atuo parts stores and some home shops such as home depot.

There are tape type repair kits that ought to easily do the trick on no pressure systems.
you can use epoxy metal clays. theyre strong, effective easy to apply and very affordable
it's called JB Weld. be sure the surface is clean and dry before you apply it.

j b weld and any type of epoxy will fail on this!a rubber seal with a contact cement and clamps will outlast the actual pipe itself.
ive used bondo and drywall net tape. lol sounds bad but it worked.. thats what they asked for..not what i would have done. they do sell rubber boots to go inside the iron pipe.. you remove the cracked piece at the hub push in the rubber with the pvc pipe. need a torch to melt the lead out of the seal is the only pain
Look at this ..more of a permanent fix.

For cutting into the pipe you may need to know if it really is 'Cast Iron" or is it " Terracotta " .looking similar but different, if i remember correctly.
The resin kits used for repairing car bodies are best but make sure everything is very dry and clean first.. Get it back to bare metal
