Muriatic Acid wash stone turned green tint?
Question:Planning on painting the stone around my house, washed them with muriatic acid, some of the stones turned a green tint color that wasn't there before washing, what causes the green coloration? Would painting on the green be ok? Thanks

The rock has copper in it. Yes you can paint it. But why?
# 1 has the clue. Not only is M.A. an etching acid; it's also an oxidizer; Hence its use in pools.
Yes certainly you can paint over it, but I have to also ask...WHY?
I love natural, and that's just a personal preference, much like politics and religion, but with no offense meant you're entitled as well.
At this juncture why not attempt matching the current acid stain and stain the stones that way as opposed to paint which surely will need "RE" on a regular basis. Actually if it was me, I'd spray the entire lot with M.A.
In re-reading your Q, I now wonder if these "stones" are pavers or a build up covering a crawl space?

If the stone is in the shade and turned green a couple weeks after you cleaned---it is algae. Brush with a Clorox solution or spray with Lysol.
After the cleaned stone dried, the oxygenated air reacted with the copper in the rock"oxydizing" it and thereby turning it a musty green color. You may have my permission to do anything you like with it!
