When putting a swimming pool up on top of cement, do you have to place something under it?

We used rubber matting under our pool on concrete, 4years still going strong.

I assume you have a pool with a vinyl liner and that the liner would rest on top of the concrete.

If this is your situation, I would have two concerns.
1. Unless the concrete is perfectly smooth, a small stone or sharp point may poke a hole in the liner
2. That acid from concrete would eat thru the liner.

I would suggest putting something over the concrete. Either spread a couple of inches of fine sand or put several thicknesses of plastic material over the concrete.

If the concrete pad is not perfectly level, the sand approach would allow you to get a level surface.
You will need a layer of sand 6 - 8" to protect the liner and provide a bit of softness to the bottom.
soften the bottom. Use carpet padding.
i would .. to save the bottom of the pool from being ripped and from you hurting yourself. they sell those foam rubber things at walmart... they are like giant puzzle pieces... they are supper cheap.. i would use those
If you're speaking of one of the above ground plastic lined pools, you' need a good layer of sand over the cement. You need it even if you are putting the pool on a dirt surface (keeps from punching holes in the liner).
