Tap repair?

Question:Got the age old problem of a dripping tap and it's getting on my nerves, washer probably needs changing. Does anyone know how to do this as it's a MIXER TAP?

Answers:
The basic principal for all taps are the same. Fist turn off the water at the stop ****. Drain off the residual water in the tap/pipe work. Open both the hot and the cold water taps on the mixer, if the mixer has plastic handles there is normally a plastic dust cap in the centre of the handle. If it a metal handle there is normally a screw that can be seen from the side of the tap. Remove either of these and take the handles off.
Next you need to remove the covers on the mixer. These sit directly under where the handles were. Remove them with an appropriate spanner.
Next you will see a brass nut, you need to remove this again with a spanner.
Now you have completely stripped the tap out and will need to replace the now visible rubber washer.
Normally this has a screw in the centre that holds it in place, remove it and the rubber washer.
Assembly is the complete revers of what you have just done.
Good luck

if you mean a tap with only one handle , its O rings not a washer
Decide if it is the hot or cold! Then take the relevant cover off the top of the tap, and you will find a screw, un do it and you will find a nut to turn with grips to take the top of the tap off, do this after you have turned the water off!!!!!!

Now take the old washer out, there may be a tiny nut, or it may just pull off. Turn the washer the other way round if it is not too bad, it will stop the drip temporarily.
Get a replacement washer after you have measured the size you need.
Step 1: Turn off the water supply to the tap.

Step 2: Carefully unscrew the tap handle. There will be a little water; have a towel ready.

Step 3: Remove the washer, o-ring, any springs.

Step 4: Take them to your local hardware store. The people there will help you get the right parts.

Step 5: Install the new parts, in the correct order, and put the tap back together.

Step 6: Turn the water back on.

I have fixed my taps many times this way and have been successful each time. You will most likely need a monkey wrench and screwdriver to do the job.
take the handle off, remove nut, pull out stem, replace gasket
It is quite simple- http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/taps/l...

Three taps are covered there so far, but it looks like cylinder type taps are not covered yet.
If it is the kind with a single handle that can be swiveled left or right to change hot/cold mix then you would need to bring the internal cartridge in to a home supply store and get the repair kit. That has all of the parts needed.

However there is an easier way. Unless it is a real bottom of the line one it will come with a lifetime warranty against leaks. Don't make any repair effort till you check whether a lifetime warranty covers your old one.

I bought one from Sears years ago. When it leaked I told them and they said I was entitled to a free replacement for the whole faucet. They looked and found that Sears doesn't sell those anymore. The store manager said I should go to a place like Lowe's or H-D and buy a replacement one ("get a very good one" was his recommendation) and they would reimburse the full cost of the new one. I bought a top of the line new one and the warranty for the cheap Sears one covered the cost of the fancy H-D Expo store one.
on some mixers there is a screw at the back of the base - unso it and take the taps apart carefully - wrap PTFE tape (plumbers tape) around all threads and that might just fix it !
