Screw wood nailers to the brick (1 X 2 or 1 X 3 laid flat) on 16" centers. Attach the wood (with nails or construction adhesive) or sheetrock (with drywall screws) to the nailers.
Use 1X2 or 1X4's screwed to the brick with concrete masonry screws. They usually call this firring out. You will need a drill, msonry bit and tapcon screws or similar. Then you can attatch your drywall or wood to the strips. Good Luck.
