Any suggestions for alterations for a pair of sweatpants?
Question:I just got a pair of sweatpants that I really like, but turned out to be too big. Any suggestions on altering myself, or is it best to go to a tailor and get it done?
Answers:
That depends on how well you'd like them to fit. Sweatpants are usually fairly loose, so if you don't need a precise fit it's easy enough to do at home. You can make the pants narrower through the legs by stitching at the existing seamlines on the outside of the leg further in than the original seam allowance, and then trimming off the excess. If there is a separate waist band it can be a bit trickier, let me know if that's the case and I'll add more detail. You can hem the bottom to shorten the pants pretty easily as well - trim off the excess at the bottom and fold up twice to the finished length you would like, and stitch.
Hi
If they were expensive, yes.
Also, they are a knit ... and knits are best sewn on a machine with a zig-zag stitch to allow for stretching .. so take them to a tailor
