How do you get a self-rimming sink to stay in place?

Question:We have installed a new countertop and sink in our kitchen. The sink is a cast acrylic, self-rimming sink. How is it supposed to be held in place? It didn't come with any clips or anything to secure it to the countertop. The sink is too light for its weight to hold it in place, and the silicone sealant doesn't hold it either.

Answers:
Well from what you are saying it must be some sort of composite type sink. I would say make sure that the caulk that you have is an adhesive type caulk and let it set with out use for the time that it say to.
I have put many sinks in that are the type that doesn't use clamps and patients is the key word here. It will set in place or they wouldn't sell them. With my business though I would come in and do the finish plumbing and then the owner really never came in the house until the next day so it did have a cure time. I think that is all you need too.
good luck

Most of these sinks can be clamped in place, from underneath the sink. HOW they are attached, is usually a seperate kit. In your case, the clips you need to hold it down are sold seperately, most likely. (Some manufacturers will provide the clips, but not all, with the sinks)

Ive installed quite a few sinks myself, and always buy the clips seperately...because of the custom nature of the countertops. There are a variety of different fasteners available to secure a sink to the countertop, and this is why many sinks do not come with the clips.

Just go back to where you purchased the sink, or a local hardware store, and you should be able to find what you need.

I would also recommend a latex based caulk to seal the sink, as opposed to silicone. The clips will do the work of holding the sink in place -- the caulk is there to simply keep the water out -- and latex caulk cures faster, and has less of an odor.

Good Luck
