Best way to paint cabinets?

Question:I am painting with an oil base and plan to "wipe on" a pecan stain to give an older antique look. I need sugestions on how to apply, ie: spray, roll. Don't be afraid to give many details.

Answers:
You are going to have to wait for a few different answers to your question but this is what you must do. Make sure that when you have applied the first oil based paint and it has dried, lightly rub it down with fine sandpaper and make sure it feels smooth to your hand when you run it across the surface. Then brush off the surface and wipe with a damp cloth.
You must be aiming for perfection so therefore use a brush for your stain because it will possess the ability to give an idea of grain.

spray the cabinets. I take the doors off, spray the base, then doors individually. I will prime with oil, (zinser). Spray with a good quality acrylic semi-gloss- (water base). So much less mess and smell. Easier clean up. Where a respirator when spraying that oil, of course. ( 25.00 or so at hardware store) Then use gel stain to antique. apply with rag, rub off with clean rag. Keep alot of rags handy. Change em often. You have more working time with the gel stain, You will have to apply a clear coat over the gel stain, though. Use deft satin clear finish. That will give you all the protection you need. No need for oil based paint.
