We are painting our house ( exterior ) with water based paint. How can we store our brushes overnight...?
Question:We will be doing a little each day. Can we store our brushes in the refrigerator or freezer overnight so we don't have to clean them every day? Or maybe there's another option. We'd appreciate any suggestions.
Answers:
If you are using water-based paint then cleaning them only takes a few minutes. Just put them under running water until no paint color comes off them. If you don't have the energy to do that each day then drop them into a bucket of water at the end of the day. You still will have to do some cleaning the next morning.
put them in a plastic bag and put them into the fridge. when you take them out, keep them in the bags and let them sit for about 15 minutes. then they are ready to go!
Just wrap it with plastic wrap and put in in a storage bag.I have done it many times...No need to refrigerate. Good luck.
i always cover my paint tray and brushes plus rollers in a plactic bag there always good to go when you are
After THOUSANDS of gallons of paint I have to say initially it depends on the cost and quality of the brushes. I've done a lot of decent work with "throw aways" I also have brushes that cost $50 each. I'd hardly leave them to chance.
One thing to note is always wet the brush prior to paint. The HEEL tends to be the first place paint leeches to and hardens.
I wash even cheap brushes Every time, keep them wet, and put them as air tight as possible in a plastic grocery bag IF I KNOW I'll be using the same brush and color within 24 hrs.
The cleaning is easy, the refrigerator will not slow the process of latex turning from a liquid state to a plastic one.
The only time I do not RINSE something that has been in contact with paint is roller covers,,,again, when I know I'll use the same color within a short period of time. Then I might LOAD the roller cover with the color, use a plastic bag, with as much air as possible OUT, keep it in a COOL place, but not strictly the place I keep food, and the next day it's still viable.

If you don't wish to waste water in a 30 minute brush rinse at the very least Soak it and store it to use again,,,soon after.

Take two minutes out your precious time each day, and wash the brushes.
you can leave the brush end submerged in paint. Put it in something almost airtight like saran wrap
Put them in a five gallon bucket half full of watter and put the lid on it.Simple as that.

hello painter here! i like to wrap my brushes in the old fasioned fold sandwich bags. fold the plastic over, so it's air tight, then store them flat. if you store them on the bristles it will bend them and make them hard to paint with. don't bother with the fridge. just keep them away from heat sources. i'd only do this one or two nights, because they will start to get really gummy and bug filled. and that will effect your finish. dont let your brushes sit in water. you will have to wash them out because they will have too much water in them to paint with. the water will thin your paint out and drip down your arm like crazy! also you don't want the metal ferrule to rust.

When painting, I usually keep aluminum foil nearby to wrap tools in for storage overnight. There is no need to refrigerate and the foil will keep the brushes from drying for couple of days.
I dont suggest letting an uncleaned brush sit over night, take a couple of minutes and clean them out well with just water.
